Road to success

The 7 steps process

01

First aid course

The first aid course, also known as the Samaritan course is the first step to obtaining your driving license! It is a mandatory course, where you will be taught how to apply first aid in case of an accident.

02

Theory course

The theory course is the second step to getting your driving license. This course will help you understand Swiss road rules but you will also be given tips for your theoretical exam that will help you pass it. Whether you are a beginner or already hold a foreign license, will highly recommend this course !

03

Form application

Submit the completed form to the motor vehicle department or also known as OCV. You must go to the counter in person and present a color photo of yourself, a first aid certificate, a Swiss identity card or a residence permit.

04

Theoretical exam + provisional license

Once you have completed and filed your application, you will be given a dates to choose from for your theoretical exam. Then when you pass, you will have to buy a provisional license that will allow you to drive as a student within Switzerland.

05

Sensibilisation course

This third course is a mandatory course to attend that will talk about traffic awareness. It is an 8 hour course that is usually given on two half days of 4 hours each. To attend this course, you must have a valid student license and once completed, you will be able to register for your practical test.

06

Driving lessons

In Switzerland unlike other European countries, Lessons are optional but highly recommended. By taking driving lessons with L2D, you will have a professional to guide you through learning how to drive and all of that in english.

07

Practical exam

You must be at least 18 years old to take the practical test. A road expert determines if you are driving safely and following properly the road rules without putting yourself or others in danger. However, since 2021 people under 20 years of age need to wait a year after passing the theoretical exam before registering for their practical test. People above 20 years of age do not fall under that requirement.
